People over the age of 50 and especially over the age of 65 can receive
discounts on various admissions and transit fares in New York. There are
discount rates for prescriptions, some hotels and museum entrance fees. Most
of the restaurants won't offer any discount for seniors but savings of up to
50% are offered for many of the hotels.
People over the age of 65 providing ID can receive MetroCard discounts and a
free return-trip transfer slip when purchasing a token on the New York
subway.
A good resource for travel information and bargains is the American
Association of Retired Persons. This is the country's most powerful
organization for the elderly, many US citizens pay a $12.50 annual
membership but the website information can be accessed for free.
