The Battery Park Esplanade and the Hudson River Park are part of a long term
5 year redevelopment project that has literally transformed the city and has
brought with it a greener feel to the area.
Fishing is available on the piers overlooking the Hudson River, species
include porgies, flounder and striped bass - but be wary of eating anything
you may catch - the river has a history of chemical pollution. The City
Island in the Bronx is the place to go for better fishing.
Chartered fishing boats are available for day and night fishing at
Sheepshead Bay in South Brooklyn. Two of the boats, the Aviator and the
Jenny Dee can take up to six people.
Free kayaking lessons at weekends are available at the Downtown Boathouse on
the Hudson River. The 79th Street Boathouse in Uptown Manhattan has a nice
houseboat docking area and restaurant.
The North Cove Sailing School and the Offshore Sailing School both offer
sailing lessons - The Offshore Sailing School at Chelsea Piers charges about
$195 per 3 hour lesson.
