If you receive a parking ticket while visiting New York you have 7 days to
either appeal against it or to pay. The Parking Violations Bureau, which is
open weekdays between 8am and 7pm, will be able to answer any questions you
may have.
If you find your car isn’t where you left it, don’t panic; call the Tow Away
office to see if they have it in their compound. This office is open 24
hours a day, Monday to Saturday and the fine to release a car from their
compound is $150 plus the $10 per day storage fee. They will accept money
orders, cash and most travellers cheques and there is even an ATM machine
onsite. Only the authorized driver of a rental car may redeem the car by
producing the relevant rental documents. The Tow Away crews are a common
site in New York City and over a third of all cars towed suffer some sort of
damage!!
If your car isn’t at the Tow Away pound you should call the police as there
may be a possibility it has been stolen.
